Sugars attack your teeth!
Invisible germs called bacteria live in your mouth all of the time.
Some of these bacteria form a sticky material called plaque which sits on the surface of your teeth.
When you put sugar in your mouth, the bacteria in the plaque eat up the sugar and turn into acids.
These acids are powerful enough to dissolve the hard enamel that covers your teeth.
That’s how cavities get started.
If you don’t eat much sugar, the bacteria can’t produce as much of the acid that eats away enamel. So be careful! We don’t want this to happen to you.
The best way to manage your sugar intake it to create a diet diary, note everything you eat over the space of three days then discuss it with your dentist. Work out how much sugar ( obvious and hidden!) you have and then work on how to reduce it.
