Dentists offer a wide choice of cosmetic braces at our Leicester clinic

tooth straightening for adults in leicester, quickly and affordably
The dentists at Smile Essential are always seeking to advance their knowledge of dental treatments and dental services. Dr Niket Patel recently went on another cosmetic brace course.

We have been offering the Six Month Smiles brace system for quite some time and now offer other systems such as Quick Straight Teeth and Cfast braces. The dentist will usually have a chat at a free consultation about the improvements you would like to make and if it’s possibly then they would invite you back for a more in-depth consultation and to select the most suitable brace system for yourself.

The cosmetic brace systems we use are:

  • Fast– You will have straight from teeth in about four to nine months.
  • Discreet– the wires and brackets are white and clear.
  • Affordable– the short treatment time dramatically cuts the cost.

Many adults are now realising that fixing their uneven smile is quite straightforward. They can have a cosmetically pleasing brace for a short period of time and at half of the cost of conventional orthodontics. In just a short while you can have a confident smile.

The celebrity choice for smile makeovers.

Cosmetic braces are being used more and more by celebrities nowadays too. Before this the favoured choice seemed to be veneers. Whilst still an option a number of people (dentists included) would prefer to go down the more conservative route and keep your teeth as natural as possible.

With amazing results created in such a short time period, it’s not surprising that cosmetic brace systems such as Cfast has been a choice for celebrities for the perfect smile since its UK launch. Holly Willoughby, Alexandra Burke and Kirk Norcross have all been treated to Cfast braces and could not be happier!!

Finding out your options for improving your smile.

If you would like to find out more about options to improve your smile or the cosmetic brace systems we offer then why not come in for a free consultation. Every month that passes you could be a month closer to a beautiful straight smile.

Cosmetic dentistry at our Leicester Dental Clinic

Screen Shot 2015-11-10 at 21.06.51

The cosmetic dentistry boom is showing no signs of slowing down, with an ever increasing number of our Leicester dental patients wanting to enhance their smile in some way. And who can blame them, a great smile gives you more confidence and can open many doors.

But is there such a thing as a perfect smile, and how do you know if your smile is perfect or not?

Firstly we’d like to say that a smile doesn’t have to be perfect for you to be happy with it. Lot’s of people like the little quirks and characteristics of their own smile- Madonna, for example, is said to like the slight gap between her front teeth and have no intention of changing it.

If you feel however that you would like to enhance your smile, there are certain key considerations, which we at our Leicester dental practice take into account when planning out your treatment.

The first thing we considered has to be what are your expectations. Our patients are increasingly opting for a more natural look rather than then the completely perfect hollywood smile- one which features realistic looking teeth with a certain translucency to them, and which is not unnaturally white.

Obviously we will look closely at your teeth, checking to see how straight they are, looking for cracks, chips and gaps, checking the size and seeing if they need to be brighter and whiter.

There are so many options we now offer at our Leicester dental clinic- veneers, crowns, cosmetic recontouring, cosmetic braces and many more other dental treatments dependant upon your requirements.

We also look at your smile as a whole, as part of your face. We check that it is correctly aligned and in proportion to the rest of your face.

smile makeover

We examine the way your teeth meet and the support they provide for your lips- this is vital, and can make a huge difference to the way you look.

Your smile plays a key role in the way you look and feel, which is why we take so much trouble to ensure that it looks great!

Get smart about teeth whitening… Part one

tooth bleaching available in Narborough N

Tooth whitening or teeth bleaching is something that most of us think about at some point in our lives. Once upon a time pearly whites were regarded as a celebrity trait, nowadays though it seems even your nan is flashing a whiter and brighter smile.

So what are your options with tooth whitening and will it work for you?
More than a 100,000 people in Britain tried tooth whitening treatments last year and the market is chock-a-block with hundreds of different options to whiten your teeth.
Let’s start with the most affordable one and one you are most likely to try

Whitening toothpastes
Whitening toothpastes generally work by removing or lifting staining from surface (enamel) a bit like a good face scrub buffs away the dead skin this buffs away some of the staining but dentists often worry that they are eroding the tooth surface at the same time. The problem? Well unlike our skin always growing new layers our teeth don’t have the ability to repair themselves so when it’s gone it’s gone!
But don’t sweat it too much! Whitening toothpastes are safer than they used and whilst still abrasive they will move some surface staining so if staining is your problem then this might well do the trick in-between dental appointments

Over the counter whitening kits
Let us just say we have never ever, ever, ever, ever (get the picture) seen this work. Perhaps it has worked for someone, somewhere?

Over the internet bleaching kits
Heard the saying ‘ooh someone just walked over my grave’? Well over the internet teeth bleaching kits sends shudders like a harlem shake down most dentists spine!

These kits can have devastating consequences for people, but don’t take our word for it have a read of this news story in the mail: http://dailym.ai/1IHRcCP

There really are lots of options to whitening your teeth too many to go over in one session so keep posted for part two of ‘Be the know-it-all about tooth whitening…’

The 5 do’s and don’ts of selfie taking…

tips from your dentist on celeb smiles

2014 was dubbed the year of the selfie and whilst you might expect hundreds of selfies from the likes of celebs in the pic, what about us mere mortals?

Selfies are a fun way of documenting a moment in time and nowadays with social media it’s great to share your everyday experiences and adventures with friends and family. A picture says a thousand words and all that…

If you’re new to taking selfies you might have realised it’s not as easy it looks, well actually we mean yeah it’s easy but it’s not so easy to do it and look good!

Even selfie goddesses like Kim Kardashian can reportedly take up to 300 selfies to find the perfect one, so have a read of our 5 do and don’t tips below to snap your perfect picture and avoid selfie disaster!

Do get the lighting right:
Lighting can be one of the best way to make your selfie look wow. Try and take your photo an hour either side of sunrise or sunset, these are called the magic hours and will help to show you in the right light.

Dont hold the camera too low:
Get yourself positioned and hold your camera up just above your head, it generally looks better if you are looking up at the camera. Holding it to low so the camera is looking up is rarely flattering and you can see right up your nose!

Do move about:
Looking dead on into the camera probably isn’t the most flattering shot for most of us. Hold the camera slightly to the side and move your arm or head around until your picture perfect!

Don’t take yourself too seriously:
The best selfies are always fun and lighthearted so pull a funny face or a big smile. Everyone loves to fool around, if a picture says a 1000 words then make sure those words are fun and loveable.

Do set the scene:
Remember to make sure your background is suitable for what you’re trying to portray or better still make it interesting, say hmmmm, like at a dental practice… #dentistselfie

After a little practice with the above dos and don’ts you’ll soon be happy snapping in no time.

10 Hidden Powers of Smiling

10 Hidden Powers of Smiling

Smile Essential Dental Team Smiling Picture

Smiling when you’re happy comes pretty easily to most. But smiling is much more powerful than just an emotional reaction to being happy. There are also all sorts of advantages to smiling that actually help people to judge not only how attractive you are but if they can trust you and if they can accept you socially.

Smiles also depend on which country you’re from, cultural and gender difference. It’s known that women generally smile more than men and that it’s not necessarily due to them being happier! Russian’s generally rank last in the smiling charts and Americans top, us Brits are somewhere in the middle of that.

1. Get others to trust you

Smiling really does help people to trust you, it shows that you are friendly and approachable and have nothing to hide. It’s thought to give your smile real value and authenticity you should show your teeth whilst smiling.

2. Smile for leniency

This art we think gets perfected during childhood and it can work towards your advantage during adulthood too! Next time you make a mistake smile.

But this time don’t show your teeth else you might look too happy!

3.Fix a social faux pas

Embarrassing social situations can be the worst. But with a little know-how, you could easily elicit a feeling from other people to show a little empathy.

An embarrassed smiles we look down and sometimes we emit a silly little laugh.

4. Stop you from feeling guilty

Surprising and probably not something you may have thought of before. But sometimes social pressures force you into smiling and women, in particular, seem to feel this pressure.

When you hear someone good new the polite thing (especially us Brits) seem to do is feel the need to smile for someone else’s success.

If someone told you some good news and you didn’t smile you would likely regret it afterwards and this would make you feel bad. So as the saying goes ‘nod and smile’.

5. Laws of Attraction

Opposites really do attract when it comes to the rules of attractiveness. If a woman smiles and makes eye contact with a man then he will approach her and it’s deemed an attractive quality.

However, if a man smiles too much at a woman then it’s thought his masculinity is brought into question and he seems less attractive.

6. Hide what you really think

It’s never great to fake a smile but sometimes it is necessary. People have a radar for fake smiling so knowing what makes a real smile to a fake is important. Americans are judged for having on occasion a fake looking smile, but as they smile the most we’ll let them off!

But what makes a smile look real or fake? Apparently, it’s 2 things: the speed of which you smile and what your eyes do. A real smile tends to come on more slowly starting at the corners of the mouth, a fake smile starts quick and fades quick. Also, smiles that don’t involve the eyes are judged as fake smiles.

7. Smile to make money

A smile can have real value in the world of work at all levels. To see this you only have to look at yourself and your own actions every day. Did you tip the smiling waitress? Give to happy charity collector? It’s an age-old system that has always worked to give you what you want and in the world of work, that means money.

Know the value of your smile.

8. Smiles are contagious

One of the simple social pleasures of life, which goes almost unnoticed because it’s automatic, is when you smile at someone and they smile back. It’s contagious and it makes us and them feel good.

So share a smile and imagine how far it could travel.

9. Smile to shake off stress

Smiling makes us feel good even when we don’t, so force a small smile when you’re feeling stressed and try to gain perspective on your situation. When smiling it’s believed a chemical reaction takes place and feel good hormones get released and this could help to reduce your stress level.

Forcing an insincere smile can be a little draining but finding a little laugh in there could be the turning point. So find something funny on youtube or watch a feel good movie and make a conscious effort to smile and laugh.

10. Live Longer

Last of all and probably the most important, smile to live a longer, healthier and happier life.

6 Tips on having the perfect smile for your wedding

wedding tips on smiling

So your wedding day is fast approaching and you will be posing for literally hundreds of photos and probably a video or two on your wedding day. How can you flash your best smile in every one? Apparently it just takes a little practice. The ideal smile is one that shows the upper teeth and not too much of the gums. Examine your smile a couple of months before your wedding, and give these tips from Martha Stewart weddings a try

1) Tilting your head to one side as you pose. Most people don’t have perfect symmetry to their faces or smiles, your smile may be more flattering if you’re not facing the camera straight on. Look at photos of yourself and study the ones you like in order to see which angle best accentuates your smile. Remember practice makes perfect and smiling often can never be a bad thing!

2) Smile with your teeth slightly parted, about one pinky-finger-width apart, says New York cosmetic dentist Jeff Golub-Evans. “If your top and bottom teeth aren’t separated, your smile can look forced. This trick will help it seem more natural.”– we think that this is a top tip!

3) Running your tongue over your front teeth to moisten them just before the picture is snapped. All that smiling will make the teeth dehydrated and dull, so lick or sip some water to sparkle.

4) Try and wear a creamy lipstick that has some shine to it. It will reflect light and make your smile look brighter, a matte formula will absorb light and may look too dark.

5) Practice your smile in front of the mirror each day, pay attention to how much of your teeth you show, says New York City cosmetic dentist Lana Rozenberg. When you find the most complimentary look, keep practicing until you can do it without thinking.

6) This tip from New York City photographer John Dolan suggests you keep moving while being photographed so you’ll look natural in wedding portraits. Holding the same pose for every shot can make your expression appear stiff so move around a little.
